Ordering New Numbers

Use this wizard to search for available phone numbers and add them to your account.

How It Works

  1. Navigate to Phone Numbers → Add Numbers → Order New Numbers.
  2. Search by area code or ZIP code to browse available local numbers, or choose Toll-Free to browse toll-free numbers. A toll-free search can be narrowed to one toll-free code (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 or 888), or left on Any toll-free code.
  3. Select the numbers you want from the results. You can pick several from one search.
  4. Choose where the numbers should route calls — a user, dial plan, voice app, queue, ring group, or shared voicemail — so they're ready to take calls as soon as they're added. This step is optional; choose Set up routing later to configure each number from its detail page afterward.
  5. Click Order to add them to your account.

Ordered numbers are available immediately and appear on the Phone Numbers page — there is no multi-day wait, unlike porting.

What it costs

Before the order is placed, the confirm step states what the numbers will add to the account's bill: the monthly total, and the per-number rate agreed for this account. Taxes and fees are additional. Numbers are charged from the moment they activate, and only for the days they are in service, so the first month is normally less than the figure shown.

A toll-free number costs the same per month as a local one. Calls to local numbers are included in the plan's calling, but every inbound minute to a toll-free number is billed, faxes included. When the selection includes a toll-free number, the confirm step says so.

If no per-number rate has been agreed for the account, the confirm step still names the numbers as billable but shows no price. Sandbox and demo accounts are never billed, and say so instead of quoting a price.

Limits

Each account has a cap on the total number of active phone numbers it can hold (25 by default, configurable per account). An order that would push the account over its cap is rejected. If you need to hold more numbers than the default, contact support to raise the cap before placing a large order. A single order can include up to 100 numbers.

Tips

  • If you need numbers in a specific area code, search by area code for the fastest results.
  • To transfer numbers you already own from another carrier, use Port Existing Numbers instead.
